Alicia Roanne Witt is an American actress and singer-songwriter probably best known for her role on “Cybil,” though she has appeared on “Ally McBeal,” “Twin Peaks,” “The Sopranos,” and the films “Urban Legend” and “Dune.” She was most recently cast in the fifth season of “Justified.”
As a child, Alicia Witt learned to read by the time she was six months old and at the age of 4 appeared on the shows “That’s Incredible” and “Today,” where she recited Shakespeare.
She began playing piano when she was seven, and competed in piano competitions. When she was 10 she played on weekends in a local restaurant, which helped her pay for piano lessons. She said, “I would often practice 4 hours a day…and loved it more than anything.”
Alicia Witt shared, “When I was a kid, my dream was to be a farmer and marry Charlie Brown. I wanted to rescue him and make him happy. Besides, he was always lusting after the little redhead girl.”
Alicia was homeschooled and earned her high school diploma when she was 14. That same age, she moved to Los Angeles. She decided she didn’t want to be a professional classical musician. Still, she used her musical skills to help support herself as a pianist while she went into acting, and at 16 she played in the Beverly Wilshire hotel for 2 ½ years. She played until she landed her first regular acting job on “Cybil.”

Alicia was able to parlay her musical skills into her acting: she learned how to play the clarinet for her role in “Mr. Holland’s Opus" and she played piano over the end credits on an episode of “Twin Peaks.” Her other roles include parts in “Vanilla Sky,” “The Upside of Anger” and “Two Weeks Notice.”
She said, “Redheads get so stereotyped. You’re either exotic and wild or totally Victorian.”
Alicia Witt launched a successful kickstarter campaign to raise funds for her first full-length album, “Live at Rockwood," now available on iTunes.
Alicia Witt is currently dating musician Ben Folds. She resides in Los Angeles.
