Her first theatrical experience was in Helen Keller Miracle Worker when she was 11. Her breakthrough role, however, was in “A Woman of Independent Means” after Sally Field hired her. She later said she fell into acting as a career “while living and attending college in Toronto. My first job was through my modeling agent.”
As for her work on “Rescue Me,” Andrea Roth tried to avoid reading things on the Internet. “Sometimes there’s nice things, but sometimes it’s just mean and nasty. And even though you read the good stuff, the stuff that sticks out because you’re shocked and horrified is that one bad line.”
As far as watching herself on screen, she said, “Anytime I watch myself for the first time…I’m seeing ‘oh look at that pimple on my face, or that weird lighting or I look tired!’ so I’m unable to be objective.”
As for dealing with 9/11 on the show, she said, “We were one of the first shows [to deal with 9/11]…it is risky and it has to be done really well or there’s going to be a lot of backlash. Oddly for us, backlash came over the rape scene.” She added in a separate interview, “Thank goodness I never had a relationship like Tommy and Janet’s.”
Though she lives in Los Angeles, Andrea Roth still misses Canada. “I miss my family…I also miss dill pickle potato chips and Canadian chocolate bars.”
She is the mother to daughter Ava Reese, born in October 2011 with the help of a doula and midwives at a hospital. Andrea was 42 when she gave birth. She said at the time, “I waited until now to get pregnant because I just hadn’t met the right man. I always knew I wanted to have children, but you have to have the right relationship…because of my age, we decided to have a child before getting married. That was our priority.”
