Bio

Apparently, “Bahar” in Persian means spring, a new life. She can speak English and Farsi, and she learned English by watching TV. As for being Persian, she said, “I’m an American, I consider myself an American…I’ve lived in the U.S. the majority of my life. It shows that anyone can come to the U.S. and make your dreams come true.”

Bahar Soomekh was born in Tehran to a Persian Jewish family. When she was four, she moved with her family to Los Angeles, in order to escape the Iranian revolution. In the States, she attended a yeshiva, Sinai Akiba Academy, and later Beverly Hills High School.

After graduation, Bahar Soomekh attended the University of California at Santa Barbara, where she majored in environmental studies. She began her career, actually, working at a corporate job and took acting classes at night. Though she landed guest parts, her breakthrough role came in 2004 with her performance in “Crash.” In 2006, she was named one of People magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful People in the World.

Bahar Soomekh said of her experience on “Saw III:” “It’s not your typical, girl with big boobs running through the forest horror film. It’s a real psychological thriller. So I was really taken by how smart the movie is. It’s really smart so that’s how I got involved and I loved doing it.” She added later, “I’ve so toughened up, you don’t even know. I was the little freaked out dork, and I’ve definitely toughened up. I can handle horror films a lot better than I used to.”

Aside from acting, she follows the teaching of tikkun olam (to heal the world) and has worked for environmental charities. Bahar Soomekh has been married to Clayton Frech, a business manager, since 2001. They reside in Los Angeles.
