Bio

Diane Kruger (originally Heidkruger) was born in Algermissen, Germany on July 15, 1976. She was raised Roman Catholic, and therefore, attended catholic school growing up. Her mother, Maria-Theresa, would also frequently sign her up for student exchange programs in order for her to get a firm grasp on the English language. She now speaks the language fluently, along with her native German and French, as well. Although originally, Diane strived to become a professional ballerina and even auditioned with the Royal Ballet School in London to do so, an injury made short work of that endeavor, instead pushing her into modeling.

After moving back to Germany in order to get her modeling career underway, Diane was signed by Elite Model Look. Although she had a particularly small frame, even for a model, this did not hinder her from booking such prestigious modeling shoots with Chanel, Christian Dior, and Louis Vuitton. She has since appeared on the cover of such publications as Vogue Paris, Marie Claire, and Cosmopolitan.

Eventually, film director Luc Besson convinced Diane that she should take up acting in order to further advance her career. Upon taking lessons at Cours Florent drama school in France, she began booking roles in small films until beating out more than 2000 women for the role of Helen in the 2004 epic, "Troy." This was very surprising considering she was a relatively unknown actress at the time, but the exposure put her on her way to landing more prominent roles, such as in 2004's "National Treasure," along with its sequel in 2007. She has since played a number of notable film roles, but was especially recognized for her part as Bridget von Hammersmark in Quentin Tarantino's  "Inglourious Basterds," which nabbed her a SAG Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. In 2013, Diane made the jump into television by signing on to star on the FX drama, "The Bridge."
