Jennifer Ann McCarthy was born in Chicago. She is known for being a Playboy Playmate of the Year (1994) and hosting “Singled Out.” On Twitter she says, “I wrote 8 books, popped out an awesome baby and I’m a blogger…Oh and Im single, so bring it.” She is from a middle-class Catholic family and she has Polish and Irish ancestry. Her father was a steel mill foreman and her mother was a hairdresser.
Jenny McCarthy was the MVP of her high school softball and field hockey team, as well as a cheerleader. Though active in school, she later said she was bullied by her classmates. (She is quoted as saying, “All those girls who were mean to me [in high school], I pay them back by going through the drive-through window and asking for my burger. That feels really great.”)
After graduating from Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School, she attended the University of Southern Illinois to study nursing. But her dire financial situation forced her to drop out. To earn money, she modeled for Playboy, which would change her life.
With her newfound fame, she landed a gig as a host for MTV’s “Singled Out.” Other jobs followed, including parts in “The Stupids,” “Just Shoot Me” and “Two and a Half Men,” among other projects. She said, “I can’t even begin to tell you how many casting couches I was attacked on. Not just by casting people, but by stars.”
She gave birth to her son, Evan Asher, in May 2002, who was diagnosed with autism. With her son’s condition, Jenny McCarthy caused controversy by claiming that vaccines cause autism and that chelation therapy helped cure her son. These claims have been met with resistance in the medical community.
