Born Jhene Aiko Efuru Chilombo, but better known as Jhene Aiko or even just Jhene, she is a singer-songwriter. She has released an album Sail Out. She is set to release her follow-up album Souled Out.
Jhene Aiko was born and raised in Los Angeles and is a mix of Japanese, African-American, Spanish, German-Jewish, Dominican and Native American ancestry.

Jhene Aikoe signed to Epic/TUG when she was only 12 and released a variety of remixes and toured with B2K on the Scream 3 tour. She asked to be released from her contracts when she was 16 in order to finish high school. She said, “I escaped the made-up world of Hollywood to experience the natural beauty of the real world.” She added later, “I was in high school and there was a new label boss who wasn’t well-versed in who I was or my music. I was just like ‘I want to get released.’”
As to her Sailing Souls mix tape, she said, “That was the height of me going through all of this stuff. I’d just had my daughter and I was working at a vegan café and I wanted to do this mix tape…I just needed to release all my frustration and my heartache and pain.”
As for her niche in the business, she said, “I don’t really categorize myself as one thing or another…I know that my fan-base is there for me…they know that I’m always changing and evolving.”
Jhene Aiko is into Buddhism. “It’s sorta free. It’s not very preachy.” She added, “I just try not to watch myself on TV. I don’t even like to look at pictures. I don’t like to get caught up with who I am, and I’m surrounded by family…everyone keeps each other down to earth.”
As for dating, she said, “I am loyal in relationships. If I am your girlfriend, that’s it. I am practicing to be your wife.”
She has a rap alter ego called “J-Henny.” “I’ve always free-styled for fun…for me, it’s joking a little bit, but I do feel like I have so many different personalities, why not give them a name…also I always sip on a little bit of something before I perform and it’s usually Hennessy so that’s who’s on stage.”
As for balancing motherhood and her career, Jhene Aiko just tries to “keep the balance. It’s hard, but I have to just take it one day at a time.” She is single and resides in Los Angeles.
