She is probably most well known as her role as a dancer on "Dancing with the Stars." Derek Hough is her brother. Julianne said her Mormon upbringing was very strict. "We learnt about being humble, being thoughtful and grateful, always to see the good in people." She added, "No sex before marriage, no drinking alcohol, no drugs, no dating before you are 16, pornography is no good. The thinking is there are certain things that pollute your mind, that aren't giving you great direction" (telegraph.co.uk).
Julianne Hough began dancing competitively at nine. After time studying performance in London, she moved back to Utah at 15 and finished high school. Julianne said of her time in London, "It was right when my parents were getting a divorce, so there was tension at home and we had this opportunity that they thought would be good. I was only supposed to stay for two months" (telegraph.co.uk). She ended up staying for five years while attending the Italia Conti theatre school and even appeared as an extra in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone."
Then she moved to Los Angeles where she landed a gig as a dancer on the game show "Show Me The Money." The show didn't last, but it opened the door to a gig, which would make her a star: a dancer on "Dancing With the Stars."
Julianne Hough has also broadened her horizons. She released a self-titled album in 2008, which hit the Billboard Country charts at #1 and entered the Billboard 200 at #3. While on tour, she opened for Brad Paisley and later toured with George Strait.
Her second album, The Julianne Hough Holiday Collection, was distributed at Target.
In 2009, Julianne Hough starred in her fitness DVD, "Cardio Ballroom." She released a second, "Just Dance!" in 2010.
She has also been the spokesperson for Proactiv, Venus Embrace, and sang an updated version of the Juicy Fruit gum theme, "The Taste is Gonna Move Ya."
Julianne Hough has appeared in the films "Rock of Ages," the remake of "Footloose," and "Burlesque." She filmed "Lamb of God." "It's about a girl renouncing God, but I found faith through doing it. I've always had God, but now I want to go back to church for the sense of community and that feeling of positive thinking, a place where I can think about being a better person."
Julianne Hough is involved in philanthropic efforts, including the Susan G. Komen Foundation, St. Jude's Children's Hospital and Clothes Off Our Back.
Julianne Hough is dating Ryan Seacrest. "I feel like an old soul. I've never dated anyone my age, but Ryan is definitely the oldest man I've dated. Age is irrelevant, I think."
