Bio

Born in Neath, Wales on June 29, 1980 and raised along with her sister by parents Susan and Selwyn John, Katherine Jenkins was destined to be a star by an early age. Growing up attending Alderman Davies Church in Wales Primary School them moving on to Dwr-y-Felin Comprehensive School, she spent her youth performing in productions of "Calamity Jane" and "Guys and Dolls" before taking singing and piano lessons at John Hugh Thomas. Moving on to become a member of the Royal School of Church Music Cathedral Singers, she took home numerous awards for her amazing voice throughout her teen years including the St Cecilia Award, two BBC Radio 2 Welsh Choirgirl of the Year awards, and the BET Welsh Choirgirl of the Year award. And this was all before becoming legal adult.

After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in London, Katherine became a freelance singing teacher as well as a tour guide for the London Eye before deciding to put her good looks to better use by becoming a model. By the year 2000, she entered and won the Face of Wales competition. Of course, her singing being her true talent, she decided to head back in that direction, eventually winning over executives at Universal Classics and Jazz with her demo and live performance of Rossini's "Una voce poco fa." From there, she was signed to a six-album contract, the UK's most lucrative classical recording deal in history.

The rest, as they say, is history. Katherine has gone on to release 11 studio albums and counting, along with performed in numerous benefits and tribute concerts for honorees such as Pope John Paul II and Judy Garland. Her star status as a recording artist has even lead to an appearance on Season 14 of the U.S. version of "Dancing with the Stars" where she finished in a respectable second place.
