Lindsey Caroline Vonn is an American World Cup alpine ski racer. She’s known for winning four World Cup championships and is one of the most successful American skiers in history. She is training for the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014.
Lindsey Vonn described herself on Twitter as “World Cup ski racer, big tennis fan, loves Red Bull, proud member of the P&G Family.”
She was born Lindsey Caroline Kildow and was raised near the Twin Cities area. She began skiing when she was two years old, and then joined Erich Sialer’s development program. Apparently, Lindsey’s father won a national junior title (before an injury knocked him from the sport) and he pushed her daughter hard.
Lindsey Vonn went to high school via an online program while she trained. She made her World Cup debut at 16 in 2000. She later won the Gold Medal in the Women’s downhill at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games. That same year she received the Laureus World Sports Award Sportswoman of the Year and the USOC’s Sportswoman of the Year.
Due to her success on the slopes, she became famous, and she has appeared on a variety of shows including “The Today Show” and “Access Hollywood.” She also has a variety of endorsement deals.
Lindsey Vonn married fellow Olympian Thomas Vonn in 2007, but they divorced in 2013. She said, “I went from being married to living on my own in L.A., to having a new boyfriend and just being totally self-sufficient and super independent. It’s awesome. I love it!”
She wrote on Facebook, “I am dating Tiger Woods. Our relationship evolved from a friendship into something more…I don’t plan on addressing this further as I would like to keep that part of my life between us.”
Her fans are known as the Vonntourage.
She tweeted after discovering she was one of the “most searched athletes” on Google for 2013, “Not sure if that’s cool or super creepy!”
