Rachel Melvin is an American film and television actress. She is best known for her role as Penny in the 2014 comedy sequel "Dumb and Dumber To," as well as playing Chelsea Brady on the long-running soap opera "Days of Our Lives."
Rachel Melvin was born in Elmhurst, Illinois on February 9, 1985, but moved with her family to Phoenix, Arizona shortly after. While there, she attended Mountain Pointe High School in Ahwatukee, where she spent much of her free time dancing and learning the violin. Although very much interested in acting from a young age, due primarily to focusing on her academics and working with the school's dance company, she was only able to participate in one play during that time. Nevertheless, upon graduating, she decided to turn down a full ride scholarship to ASU in favor of moving to Los Angeles instead.
While the road to booking your first acting gig in LA is often tough, Rachel managed to land her first audition within the first six months of moving. Even better, she wound up landing the part, too, which was a minor role in the independent horror film "Boo." Fortunately, her humble beginnings led to bigger and better things, and in no time she was able to book the part of Chelsea Brady on the long-running soap opera "Days of Our Lives," a role she would go on to play for over 300 episodes.
Of course, such exposure to a wide audience on a daily basis is bound to draw attention, and within weeks of leaving the series in 2009, guest roles on series such as "Heroes" and "Castle" began to present themselves. Even though the abundance of work was a blessing within itself, Rachel didn't truly catch her big break until being cast as Penny in the 2014 comedy sequel "Dumb and Dumber To," a role that went on to take her career in mostly television to new and exciting heights.
