Pissing off a whole nation takes talent.

Meet Jaylene Cook. Cook is a 25-year-old model and “adventurer” who enjoys visiting awesome places and taking hot photos for all of us to see. That’s why she has close to 300k followers on Instagram, because photos like this.

But one recent photo that Cook shared is pissing off a lot of people, especially folks in New Zealand. The photo shows Cook on top of Mount Taranki, which is a sacred volcano revered by New Zealand’s Maori people. So Cook of course reached the top, and then got naked. Whoops.

Check out the photo below.

The Maori people have now bashed this photo and Cook for being “culturally insensitive.” Dennis Ngawhare, a spokesperson for the local Maori tribe, had this to say to BBC about Cook and the photo.

“It’s like someone went into St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican and took a nude photo. It’s a sacred place and something like this is just very inappropriate.

People might say it’s just rocks and earth so how can you disrespect it? We simply ask people to please be respectful. This latest case is just another really annoying example where someone obviously didn’t know how to behave here.”

Hell, even climbing the mountain is considered disrespectful. But this is clearly an example of Cook just not knowing what the hell she was climbing. And who has time to do research when you’re busy getting naked for an Instagram photo? Hey, Cook just had her priorities in order.

Ngawhare added:

“I don’t think the picture itself is offensive or obscene – it is just inappropriate to take on top of Mount Taranaki because it is a place with great deal of importance for the Maori community.”

Cook has actually defended the photo, saying she did research and didn’t think it would be offensive, but she should have researched more. You think?

Well, this is clearly a dumb move on Cook’s part. I wonder if we can forgive her.
