Lots of women in pop music have turned the tables and subverted or flipped the male gaze by casting men as sex objects in their videos – Salt & Pepa in “Shoop;” Madonna in “Express Yourself” (among others,) and Jennifer Lopez with “I Luh Ya Papi” are just three examples. Charli XCX, in the video for “Boys,” which she co-directed with Sarah McColgan, joins those esteemed femmes in the quest for parity. Guys of every hue and body type are objectified and reduced to happy-to-be-here eye candy in the tongue-in-cheek clip.
