What a spectacle it was. Performing at this year's Super Bowl halftime show, Madonna went to the greatest lengths imaginable to make sure that her hotly-anticipated spot on the most watched television event of the year was an unforgettable one – and she largely pulled it off.
With tightrope walkers, voguing Roman soldiers, b-boy breakdancers, a marching band, an army of cheerleaders and guests ranging from Nicki Minaj, M.I.A. and Cee Lo Green to LMFAO, Madge performed a medley of old hits as well as her new single.
M.I.A, ever the one to sneer in the face of opportunity, tossed a middle finger to the cameras during the new track 'Give Me All Your Luvin',' but the Material Girl otherwise played it safe with a fun show.
Opening with 'Vogue,' Madonna climbed atop the shoulders of one of the one members of LMFAO for a moment, before a momentary slip on 'Music,' then through 'Give Me All Your Luvin',' with Minaj and M.I.A. working pom-poms and running cheer routines.
Cee Lo then played drum major, helping lead through snippets of 'Open Your Heart' and 'Express Yourself' before donning a monk's robe and assisting on the grand finale: 'Like a Prayer,' complete with a massive gospel choir.
All in all, a pretty spectacular visual experience – the NBC brass was likely breathing big sighs of relief as quarter 3 kicked off for the big game.
