RIP: MCA Adam Yauch of The Beastie Boys Dead at 47

Details are still scant, but several sources are reporting the beloved rapper's untimely demise.

The worst of all outcomes for Beastie Boys fans and family has happened: Adam Yauch, known as his stage name MCA, has died, according to celebrity gossip site TMZ. Yauch was 47 and had been battling cancer since 2009.

The rapper had announced he was being treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node in 2009, and has since undergone surgery and radiation therapy.

TMZ claims that several sources close to the rapper have confirmed his death, while reports on Twitter say that a person close to the Beastie Boys posted notice of Yauch’s death on their personal Facebook page:

I can't confirm rumors that Adam Yauch passed away but I can confirm that someone close to the band posted that on their personal Facebook.—

Yauch founded the Grammy-winning Beastie Boys with fellow New York City rappers Mike D and Ad Rock in 1979. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
