Drake and Marianas Trench come out on top.

Marianas Trench led the way yesterday when the MMVA nominations were announced, receiving a total of seven nods, more than any other musician or group – Drake and Hedley rounded out the top three with five nominations each.

Justin Bieber (who has two nods), City and Colour, Simple Plan, Carly Rae Jepsen, Toronto pop-hip-hop act Down With Webster (who are included in four award categories), and Danny Fernandes all received noms as well.

Marianas Trench hails from Vancouver and consists of Josh Ramsay, Matt Webb, Mike Ayley, and Ian Casselman. They have three studio albums to their name, the most recent being "Ever After," which was released last November. They kicked off their cross-America tour in support of the album last month in New York, but an illness has postponed the tour indefinitely. However, the band is still scheduled to perform at two big events this summer: Journey's Backyard BBQ Tour and at the Kinsmen Cornwall Lift-Off music festival in July. They've arrived at past MMVA shows in quite unique ways (once with a marching band, and last year enclosed in plastic bubbles), so fans are eager to see what they'll have up their sleeves for this year's event.

Meanwhile Drake and Hedley will be going head to head in the best video category for their tracks "Headlines" and "Invincible."

The awards show will be co hosted by the eccentric group LMFAO, where they will perform, as will American starlet Katy Perry. The MuchMusic Video Awards will air on June 17th from Toronto outside the MuchMusic headquarters at the parking lot on Queen and John.
