Beverly Hills auctioneer Darren Julien has announced plans to put Elvis Presley's original crypt on the block as part of his "Music Icons" auction. There are people who listen to Elvis. Then there are people who grow their sideburns long and practice The King's trademark lip curl. Hell, some people even make the pilgrimage to Graceland to show their respects.
But this? This is downright creeptastic.
Presley was interred in the tomb alongside his mother, Gladys, after he (ALLEGEDLY!) died on Aug. 16, 1977. The two were exhumed and reburied at Presley's Graceland home only two months later. The original crypt, in a mausoleum at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn., has been preserved since.
Julien says on his web site that the winning bid from the auction, which will open on June 23, will receive opening and closing of the vault, a memorial inscription and use of a chapel for a service. After that, you're on your own: transportation and funeral home charges are not included.
