U2 fans have a lot to get excited about each year. In addition to consistent releases and seemingly endless touring by the biggest band in the world, every year U2 create a one-off, special edition release for subscribers to U2.com. And after completing the single most successful concert tour of all time, this year's offer packs an extra special punch: a limited-edition double-CD set, U22, the definitive soundtrack of the tour.
Beginning in Barcelona in June 2009 and closing in Moncton, Canada in July 2011, on U2360° the band performed 110 shows to more than 7million fans in 30 countries on 5 continents. Through an extensive process, tens of thousands of fans voted and have decided the tracks to make up the unique release, which can only be purchased by subscribers to the U2.com club.
While classics like "Beautiful Day" and "With or Without You" made the U22 cut, staples like "Pride (In The Name of Love)" and "Sunday Bloody Sunday" just missed out, instead replaced with live favorites like "Moment of Surrender" and "Bad" alongside hidden treasures like "Zooropa" and "Stay(Faraway, So Close)".
Sequenced and mastered by the band and their production team, U22 runs to over two hours and is presented in a deluxe LP-sized book of photos with liner notes from Adam Clayton. This limited edition set, curated by the fans, is not available on sale in store or online – only with a subscription to U2.com.
When fans take out a subscription to U2.com, they can immediately download TWELVE tracks – including a bonus track, "Unknown Caller," that's not on U22. They also gain access to a range of other exclusive online benefits at U2.com – and U22 goes straight in the mail to them.
Since release in early June, reaction in the U2 fan community has been stellar. The fans are more than happy with the results. Isn't it time to join them?
