Daken — the son of Wolverine — has a new master.
With the departure of Dan Way and Marjorie Liu, Marvel has announced that Rob Williams will be the new writer of Daken: Dark Wolverine beginning in May with a Point One issue that serves as a jumping on point for new readers.
“I’m so excited to have Rob Williams coming on board Dark Wolverine," said Marvel editor, Jeanine Schafer. "His sharp ear and sardonic wit, combined with his knack for twisty, noir-inspired plots are the perfect combo for Daken to take full advantage of."
The new storyline finds Daken firmly in control of Madripoor’s criminal forces and already looking to expand into a larger territory: Los Angeles. Opposing his plans are none other than the mighty Avengers and his father, Wolverine.
“We’re ramping up for a blow-out year," added Schafer. "Daken has his sights set on a new status as a true kingpin, pulling all the strings, and stopping at nothing to get what he wants. Lots of gorgeous men and women, double-crosses and the constant threat of going over the edge. What more could you ask for in a great noir?”
Prior to his stint at Marvel, Williams was best known for Cla$$war, a creator owned comic illustrated by Trevor Hairsine and Travel Foreman, among others. He later went on to write for 2000 AD before landing Star Wars: Rebellion and Indiana Jones and The Tomb of The Gods at Dark Horse and Robocop for Dynamite.
As for his Marvel work, Williams has written stories in Dark X-Men: The Beginning, Deadpool Team Up and Shadowland: Ghost Rider.
Daken: Dark Wolverine #9.1 will claw its way into stores on May 27, 2011.
