When you stop to think about it, there's been an Assassin’s Creed release every year for the past three years. We saw Assassin’s Creed II launch in 2009; Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood in 2010; and we’re gearing up for Assassin’s Creed: Revelations in 2011. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot wants to use this same business strategy with the rest of Ubisoft’s line-up.
This would scare the hell out of us if it weren’t for the fact that with every new Assassin’s Creed release we see strides in evolution and innovation. There’s no denying it; even with yearly releases, the Assassin’s Creed franchise as improved drastically. And with AC being Guillemot’s prime example in his pitch, it's hard to find fault in his logic.
Here’s what Yves Guillemot had to say on the yearly model for Ubisoft titles:
"What is impressive with the release year after year of Assassin's Creed is our ability to deliver every time with a high level of innovation and creativity in a large and very diverse open world," he said. "There is no other open world console game that is coming on a yearly basis."
"We are applying the very [same] product template to our other strong franchises to bring them back to Assassin's Creed blockbuster profitable status," added Guillemot.
If Ubisoft stays true to their word, we could be seeing yearly releases of Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia and FarCry, to name but a few. Is this something you would be excited for?
