Did you like Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army? Too bad. Because it looks like that's all the Hellboy we're going to get from Guillermo del Toro. It's a shame too, because he was obviously looking to make a trilogy.
Daily Blam, reporting from the Calgary Comics Expo, got a scoop straight from Hellboy creator Mike Mignola's mouth. What did he have to say?
"Last I heard he said he would not make it. Guillermo — who I love — in every interview there's a new story on what his next movie is and he honestly believes he's going to do all these things. But last I heard, he said 'I'm never gonna get back to Hellboy. I'm not surprised because he won't live long enough to do a tenth of the movies he's told me he's going to make."
It's hard to blame del Toro, who's producing and/or directing approximately 80,000 movies right now. He's got Pacific Rim coming up, a new version of Pinocchio, and probably a biography of Helen Keller or something. It's hard to keep track.
It's possible that somebody else will want to come on board to direct a third Hellboy, but given that neither of the first two films set the box office on fire it seems unlikely that the franchise would continue without the Academy Award-nominated director attached.
Crave Online will be back with more Hellboy 3 news if it ever claws its way out of development hell.
