Julia Ormond is officially in talks to join the cast of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel Superman reboot. The Law & Order: Criminal Intent star would join a still-in-talks Russell Crowe as Lara Lor-Van, Superman's birth mother. The role was originally played in Superman: The Movie and Superman II by Susannah York, who sadly died earlier this year. Deadline had the scoop.

Ormond has had an interesting career to date: five years after making her screen debut in the BBC mini-series Traffik (upon which Steven Soderbergh's Oscar-winning Traffic was based), she was landing high-profile star-making roles in the likes of Legends of the Fall, Sabrina, First Knight and Smilla's Sense of Snow. But when that string of films failed to make an impression on audiences she found herself relegated to smaller roles despite her obvious talent and classical good looks. Since then she's made do with smaller roles in weirder films like Inland Empire, Surveillance, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and unfortunately the Lindsey Lohan debacle I Know Who Killed Me.

We'd love to see Ormond back on the screen in a big way, and it looks like Man of Steel could be the film to do it, even if it's little more than a glorified cameo.

In related news, still no casting news for Lex Luthor. Is he going to be in this thing or what?

Crave Online will be back with more Man of Steel news after we outrun this speeding locomotive.
