Crytek ‘Thinking About’ Bringing Back TimeSplitters

Stop thinking and just do it.

There are whispers in the wind about the classic TimeSplitters series from Free Radical Games (now Crytek UK) making a comeback in the near future. Some are even saying that we could see TimeSplitters 4 as a launch game for Microsoft’s next console, whenever that may be.

However, Cryek co-founder Avni Yerli has recently deflated our hope balloon a little. In a recent discussion with NowGamer, Yerli said that, currently, there are “no concrete plans” to bring back the cult-classic first-person shooter franchise, whether it be to this console generation or the next. But that doesn’t mean Crytek isn’t thinking about the possibility.

“Obviously Timesplitters, historically, was for [Free Radical/Crytek UK] an important IP,” said Yerli. “From our perspective we always had a lot of fun playing TimesplittersTimesplitters 2 was amazing fun. Crytek and Crytek UK are interested in the IP; we are thinking about it but we’re trying to decide what we could do best with the IP, where we could bring it. There are no concrete plans yet.”

Major bummer. Personally, I loved the TimeSplitters franchise growing up. It was actually the third game in the series, TimeSplitters: Future Perfect, that really got its hooks in me. Thinking back, I do miss this franchise and would love to see it resurrected soon rather than later. Do you agree? Would you like to see TimeSplitters make a comeback?
