Like everyone and their dogs (but not their cats, those Philistines…) we love Hugh Jackman. Charming, talented and as comfortable snikting up Liev Schreiber as he is belting show tunes, the former Oscar host may not be the greatest showman on Earth (no matter what our tag line says), but he's still perfect casting to play P.T. Barnum in The Greatest Showman on Earth. So we guess it's a good thing that he's just been cast as P.T. Barnum in The Greatest Showman on Earth. Yes… That will work nicely.
20th Century Fox has set up the project, to be directed by Michael Gracey, a music video and commercials director who has also lined up The Order of Seven, a Chinese-set Snow White story for Disney. The Greatest Showman on Earth tells the story of P.T. Barnum, famed showman and the charlatan behind such famous hoaxes as the "The Feejee Mermaid," which was not, in fact, a mermaid. (It was the head of a monkey sewn onto the body of a fish. Yes, it's gross.) The movie focuses on Barnum's relationship with famed opera singer Jenny Lind, whom Barnum imported to America and paid an unthinkable $1,000 a night to perform. Anne Hathaway's name has been bandied about to play Jenny Lind, but isn't confirmed.
Gracey is an unknown quantity as a feature film director, but has an impressive list of commercial and music video accomplishments. We're not sure if the music video for Gabriella Cilmi's On a Mission qualifies, but if was the first thing that popped up when we searched for something to show you. Well, at least he's a Barbarella fan.
CRAVE Online will be back with more Greatest Showman news after we check out this crazy "General Tom Thumb" exhibit. Man, that's gotta be real, right?
