A war of words has been going on between Activision heads and EA heads concerning the upcoming market battle between Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3. Each shooter is set to hit store shelves this holiday, and EA has been openly calling out CoD and Activision for their series and its flaws.
EA head John Riccitiello told IndustryGamers that he'd like to see Call of Duty "rot from the core." Activision's Eric Hirshberg fired back that no company should hope to see another fail for the sake of the industry's health. Then EA told Hirshberg to, essentially, quit whining; this is the big leagues.
That's the extremely quick, exceptionally shallow breakdown of what's been going on between these two companies. And it's because of those events that Robert Bowling's Tweet seems so weird. Here's what he offered via Twitter:
GamesCom completed! Spent an hour playing @Battlefield 3 multiplayer with friends from DICE, I loved it! Also, Batman: Arkham City = amazing
That's right, Robert. Arkham City does equal amazing.
One of two things is happening as far as where concerned. First, maybe Bowling is a legitimate fan of gaming and really, really wanted to check out what DICE had to offer. We love this notion, and we think it's probably the most legitimate.
The counter: Activision had Bowling specifically Tweet that he loved Battlefield 3 as a way of playing the "nice guy" game. We hate this idea, and we totally hope it's wildly wrong. But, hey, it's an idea.
Either way, yes, Arkham City is amazing.
