Taylor Lautner and Dwayne Johnson are ‘David and Goliath?’

It's based on the biblical epic, but we just couldn't resist using this shot.

Director Scott Derrickson's got the world on a sling right now: the director of The Exorcism of Emily Rose and the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still is in talks with two big stars for his upcoming biblical epic Goliath. Taylor Lautner would play David and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson would play Goliath in the upcoming film from Relativity Media.

Twitch Film, which broke the news, made it clear that this is not a done deal, but did sound confident that the wheels are in motion. The original story, which some of you may be familiar with, centers around a battle in The Valley of Elah between the Philistines (not noted for their good taste) and the Israelites. Twice a day for forty days, Goliath steps out from the Philistines and offers to settle the entire conflict in single combat with the Israelite's champion of choice. The son of the king's servant, David says, "Screw it, I'll take the dude on" (paraphrased) and winds up kicking Goliath's ass using only a sling and five rocks.

Presumably Derrickson will flesh the story out a bit before it winds up in theaters. Despite a variety of cartoons that made Goliath appear like a towering building of a man, the oldest manuscripts reveal that he was probably about 6'9". Still pretty intimidating, but it not the kind of thing Hollywood will need to supplement with CGI.

CraveOnline will return with more Goliath news. It might not be Goliath-sized news, but it will be about the film of the same name.
