Good news today… Well, "news" at any rate. After an exhaustive search, Die Hard 5 has finally landed a new director in the form of John Moore. The director of Max Payne, Behind Enemy Lines and The Omen will take John McClane on his latest adventure, rumored to be an action-packed tale set in Moscow for some reason that we are completely unable to understand.
Deadline reported on the news, stating that Moore was always a studio favorite since all of his films have been produced at Fox. The goal, apparently, is to get production started as soon as possible to beat Bruce Willis's other upcoming sequel, Red 2, to the starting gate. Moore is taking the seat vacated by Noam Murro, who left the production to make 300: The Battle of Artemisia instead.
Moore's track record as a director is a spotty one. The Omen was a modest success, while Max Payne was an attractive but oppressively dull video game adaptation that most of us would prefer to forget. His best film was also quickly forgotten: a smart, involving remake of The Flight of the Phoenix, starring Dennis Quaid, Giovanni Ribisi and House's Hugh Laurie. Hopefully he brings more of that panache to Die Hard 5 than the aforementioned dullness.
