The X-Files is one of the few TV shows to spawn a feature film series with the same cast and crew. And although it's been almost 10 years since show's the original run ended (Really? The X-Files lasted that long after Duchovny left?), and although the second film, X-Files: I Want To Believe was a disappointment on a variety of levels, co-star Gillian Anderson just told the Australian TV show Sunrise that they're still talking about doing another one.
"I hope it will happen. There's talk of it. […] I don't know who's writing it but I hear there's something going on."
Talk of a sequel? Snore. What kind of sequel would you like to make, Gillian?
"I've always wanted to do a spoof of The X-Files as a film. We talked about that for a long time but maybe after three features we could get to do a spoof feature."
There you go…
Better yet, why not make The X-Files 3 a plain ol' funny film? Like everyone else, we loved The X-Files, but we thought the series really soared when it was either doing their conspiracy thing (which they covered in the first feature film), or having some fun with their Monster of the Week premise. Whether they were fighting an invasion of alien cockroaches in War of the Coprophages or Rashomon-ing their way through a town of obsessive-compulsive redneck vampires in Bad Blood, our very favorite episodes showed of the series' lighter side (without, obviously, completely shirking the horror). I Want To Believe was hopelessly dour. Bring back the fun before someone at Fox decides that it's time to reboot the series altogether!
Thanks to Hollywood Reporter for the heads up.
CraveOnline will be back with more X-Files 3 news after we get this bee sting checked out.
