In a bit of news that we were pretty sure had already been confirmed, but apparently not, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis have officially agreed to return for The Expendables 2 in what Deadline is calling "substantial" roles. Huh. The sequel to The Expendables is going to have actual substance this time? Who'd have thought?
We're still waiting to hear about the "plot" of this sequel, and whether long-rumored cast members Jean-Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris will be joining the fray as well. (Here's our pitch: 71-year-old native Oklahoman Norris plays a George W. Bush-like President, who gets kidnapped by terrorists and fights his own way out of danger.) But with Schwarzenegger out of office this time out, he should finally be able to actually appear in the same frame as both Sylvester Stallone and Willis without the aid of green screen. Will he actually do anything? Yes, apparently. Something "substantial."
The Expendables 2, you'll recall, will reteam most of the surviving cast members fo the original film, and this time out Stallone has abdicated the director's chair to Simon West, the director of The Mechanic and Tomb Raider. So that could be interesting. We guess. All the conjecture has kind of wiped out our enthusiasm for the project, but once it begins filming and the "Will They or Won't They?" nonsense finally dies down, we expect to get ourselves worked up into a tizzy once more for another testosterone-laced high octane thrill ride. Or something.
CraveOnline will return with more Expendables 2 news once we get pendable again.
