Syndicate Announced by EA

One of EA’s hallmark franchises gets a revision.

Today, EA Games and Starbreeze Studios (Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness) have announced the return of one of EA’s most storied franchises, Syndicate. The original Syndicate released in 1993 as an isometric real-time tactical game. This revision of the Syndicate, however, will be a first-person shooter set in a not-too-distant future where “business is war.” Players take on the role of Miles Kilo in 2069, who is Eurocorp’s latest prototype agent embarking on an “epic action adventure full of corruption and revenge.”

“We are excited to finally reveal what we’ve been working on the past couple years,” says Mikael Nermark, CEO of Starbreeze Studios. "It's been a great experience working with EA, and an amazing opportunity for us to use our expertise in the first-person shooter and action genres to bring back, and reignite, the signature action/espionage gameplay of Syndicate.”

In Syndicate, players are digitally connected to the game world and can “breach” not only things in the environment, but also people. Some of the powers at your disposal will be the ability to hack objects and slow down time, for example. Finally, Syndicate will feature a separate 4-player cooperative mode where gamers can relive missions from the original 1993 classic title.

Syndicate is set to release in early 2012 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Here are some early screens from the game. Is it just us, or does Syndicate look and sound very Deus Ex-y?
