Dead or Alive 5 Announced

Beach volleyball is out. Fighting is back in. And you can expect plenty of scantily clad women.

Tecmo has announced via press release that they are bringing back their popular fighting franchise Dead or Alive with Dead or Alive 5. And before you ask, no, this is not another beach volleyball, boob bounce simulator. This is a return to form pitting two people against one another in a ring meant for combat. But don’t you worry your little face, I’m sure the game will still be filled to the gills with super chesty woman. It wouldn’t be Dead or Alive if it didn’t.

Dead or Alive 5 will be coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012 from development house Team Ninja. The game will bring the series to a “new level,” supported by completely new 3D stages. These stages will actually interact with the fighters and play to their strengths and weaknesses, says Tecmo.

“It is exciting for us to officially let fans know that we’ve been working on Dead or Alive 5,” said Yosuke Hayashi, Team NINJA leader. “Our vision for this next installment is that of what we believe is the evolution of Dead or Alive which is to deliver a high quality, high energy action fighting experience that still keeps to its amazing spirit.”

Dead or Alive 5 will be returning to a genre that currently has some damn stiff competition. Capcom has both Super Street Fighter IV and Marvel vs. Capcom 3. And then there’s Mortal Kombat, which is a complete revision of that franchise and is, in my humble opinion, the best fighter currently on shelves. Dead or Alive 5 is going to have to bring its A-game in 2012, that’s for sure, because this genre has changed in its absence.
