One of the most striking aspects of "The Walking Dead" on AMC has been the incredible zombie make-up designed and used by Greg Nicotero and his special effects team at  KNB. Last weekend, Nicotero's work on "The Walking Dead" was honored with an Emmy Award for Best Prosthetic Make-Up. And now, AMC is offering Nicotero a different kind of reward.

In a statement released to the press, AMC officially announced Nicotero's new first-look development deal with the network as well as his promotion to co-executive producer of "The Walking Dead."

"Greg's talent extends well beyond the word of special fx makeup,” said AMC’s Senior Vice President of Original Programming, Joel Stillerman. “He is also a truly talented director, and has an incredibly comprehensive understanding and appreciation for great storytelling. His knowledge and respect for the genre is unparalleled, and we are looking forward to expanding our relationship with him with an eye towards developing more great original series.”

Since Nicotero's first film experience in 1985 on "Day of the Dead," he has contributed to nearly 800 movies, including "Spider-Man 3," "Serenity," "Kill Bill," "Unbreakable," "Frank Herbert's Dune," "The Cell" and "Scream."

Nicotero is directing an episode of "The Walking Dead" TV series in the second season in addition to directing and conceiving the "Walking Dead" web series set to debut early next month. Along with screenwriter John Esposito, Nicotero's web series will explore the origins of the "Bicycle Girl" zombie killed by Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) in the pilot episode. According to earlier reports, the woman is named Hannah and the first part of the web series will begin as she and her children have taken refuge at the home of her ex-husband.

The six part "Walking Dead" web series will premiere on October 03 on AMC's official website, with the second season set to kick off on Sunday, October 16.
