Here’s some incentive to pick up the PlayStation 3 version of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations when it launches on November 15th. Giant Bomb is reporting that the PS3 version of AC: Revelations will come packaged with a copy of the original Assassin’s Creed as well.
As most of you are probably aware, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations not only concludes Ezio’s journey, but it also brings back Assassin’s Creed I protagonist, Altair, into the fold. Apparently, the fates of Ezio and Altair are intertwined, and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations plans to spell out that… well… revelation, one might say.
The thing about the original Assassin’s Creed is that it’s kind of viewed as the black sheep of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Sure, it kicked off the series and did well enough, sales wise, to warrant a number of sequels, but the game isn’t really looked at now with rose-tinted goggles. Poop-tinted goggles, maybe.
See, some loved the original Assassin’s Creed for its world building and fiction, but many wound up hating it due to its monotonous gameplay and under-cooked mechanics. I fall somewhere between the two camps, straddling the line between love and hate like some cheap hooker grinding on an old dude and trying to work him for the last dollar in his wallet. Like I said, the original Assassin’s Creed is a twisted beast that makes us feel dirty at times.
But maybe the first Assassin’s Creed is worth a revisit. I mean, hell, it is free with the PS3 version of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. That’s got to count for something, right? And if you never got around to playing the original game, now’s your chance to see how it all started, as clunky as it may be.
