An unexpected and totally last minute casting change has befallen Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, Man of Steel. 1990's "It" girl Julia Ormond had originally been cast as Clark Kent's biological mother Lara Lor-Van, but has apparently left the project for unknown reasons. (Take your pick: "Scheduling Problems," "Creative Differences" or "Personal Reasons.") Snyder ain't wasting time though: he's already recast the part. Enter Ayelet Zurer, the star of Angels & Demons.
Deadline reported the news of Zurer's casting, making her the second female star of Man of Steel with a name that's difficult to pronounce. (She and Antje Traue are balanced, however, by Amy Adams and Diane Lane, so it's neck-and-neck.) We liked her very much in Angels & Demons, although the film – while successful – failed to catapult her to stardom. We suspect that her new character, Lara Lor-Van, won't either, since she's pretty much doomed to die before the end of the first act, unless of course there's some serious retcon action going down.
CraveOnline will be back with more Man of Steel news as soon as we find a telephone booth. Wait, are there even telephone booths anymore?
