While my husband may be the history buff of the duo and is always in search of checking out a "cool battlefield" or "neat fort," I'm the one who is planning our days around food stops. I'm a self-professed Food Network junkie, I've done my share of restaurant profiles and foodie news-reporting, and nothing excites me more than finding that perfect dish.

I'm not a food snob per se. My palate is pretty simple and a melange of gourmet ingredients does nothing but intimidate me. What I like is finding real good food. I had the perfect piece of pecan pie at a little diner at a rest stop in South Carolina, I had the most succulent of BBQ fare in the heart of Tennessee, and nothing compares to a slice of pizza in The Big Apple.

I recently received a press release because the Michelin Guide announced the Bib Gourmand selections for the 2012 New York City Michelin Guide, regarded by many as the go-to restaurant-ranking guidebook. It is released annually in the fall and celebrates Bib Gourmand selections for their exceptional cuisine at a great value, offering two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less (tax and gratuity not included). The selection includes 114 restaurants earning Bib Gourmand status this year, and a few of them include:


Clinton St. Baking Company

Started by a husband-and-wife team and serving up delicious omelettes, sandwiches, and soups (we hear you should try their blueberry pancakes).


DBGB Kitchen & Bar

Where French brasserie meets the American tavern. They have 14 incredible varieties of sausage that are all made in-house.


Frankies 457 Spuntino

Boasts seasonally-inspired Italian cuisine and who even carry their own line of olive oil.


Vinegar Hill House in Brooklyn

Known for their delectable brunch, extensive wine list, and attention to detail.


Wild Edibles

With everything from an amazing seafood restaurant to an oyster bar and seafood shop. Everything's good here, including the boat-fresh fish and seasonal specialties.
