Namco and Project Soul have confirmed today that Ezio Auditore de Firenze from the Assassin’s Creed franchise will be a playable character in Soulcalibur V. Rumors of this special character making an appearance have been circulating for a while now, so it’s nice to finally see a confirmation by way of press release and trailer.

Over the last few iterations of Soulcalibur, guest appearances from other franchises have become commonplace. Soulcalibur IV featured Yoda and Darth Vader for instance, while Soulcalibur II played host to different characters exclusive to specific platforms — The Legend of Zelda’s Link for Gamecube, Tekken’s Heihachi Mishima for PS2 and Spawn for Xbox.

Of all the special guest stars this franchise has seen, Ezio probably makes the most sense. I mean, I don’t care how powerful the Soul Edge is, a lightsaber would cut right through that shit.
