NBC Plans A ‘Community’ Christmas Musical

Following last year's instant classic, the Greendale gang will belt out some original tunes this holiday season.

In 2010, "Community" featured a special stop-motion animation Christmas episode (pictured above) called "Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas;" which brilliantly satirized the classic animated Christmas specials of yesteryear while firmly establishing "Community" as one of the most heartfelt comedies on television.

This year, the Greendale study group may not be animated, but the producers of "Community" once again have something special planned.

According to TVLine, "Community" will get a Christmas themed musical as Jeff (Joel McHale), Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown), Britta (Gillian Jacobs), Pierce (Chevy Chase); Annie (Alison Brie), Troy (Donald Glover)and Abed (Danny Pudi) are forced to fill in for the Greendale Glee club during the holidays.

Taran Killam ("Saturday Night Live") will guest star as the "kooky choir director," Mr. Schue.

Additionally, the report indicates that the series will use entirely new songs for the occasion, as opposed to any conventional Christmas songs and hymns.

If "Community" sticks to the schedule established last year, this Christmas episode should air around the week of December 08.

And if you want a reminder of what the cast and creators can do with a musical, here's one of our favorite clips from the third season premiere.
