We guess they weren't kidding when they said they were ramping up on the Akira remake. Casting talks have apparently started in earnest, with Helena Bonham Carter and Gary Oldman both reportedly being offered big roles in the upcoming live-action remake of the classic anime film and manga series.
Twitch Film reports that acclaimed actors Oldman and Carter have been offered the roles of "The Colonel" and "Lady Miyako," respectively. The Colonel played a big role in the popular original movie adaptation, since he runs the top secret government program that cares for the psychic children which drive the story forward. Lady Miyako ended up on the sidelines of the original film, but in the original series was revealed to be a former test subject from the Colonel's program and plays an integral part in the final battle.
Right now these are just offers (and only reportedly at that), but at least new director Jaume Collet-Serra is shooting for the stars. The really talented stars, that is.
CraveOnline will be back with more Akira news once our arms go back to normal.
