Of all the remakes going on right now – we've long since lost count – we probably have more mixed feelings about Evil Dead than anything else. On one hand, seriously? On the other hand, seriously.
Well, that probably warrants a little elaboration. Like all goodhearted people, we're hardcore Evil Dead fans here at CraveOnline, and don't think the remake is necessary at all. On the other hand, Sam Raimi is making sure the new version stays close to the series' low-budget roots, has hired Fede Alvarez, a director with something to prove, and won't hew too close to the original. They're not even bringing Ash back, with or without Bruce Campbell. And there's there's Diablo Cody, who's working on the script and whose track record is, shall we say, really hit or miss. We really need more information before we can make an educated decision about our feelings, and more information we now have. Too much more, if we're being honest.
MovieHole has posted a SPOILER-laden plot synopsis of the horror remake, which marks clear differences between this new version and the original. We're comfortable telling you that the new film features a new, young cast of characters who travel to the ill-fated cabin so that one of their number, a girl named Mia, can kick her drug habit cold turkey. The actual horrors brought about by the Book of the Dead are misinterpreted as Mia's delusions. Beyond that, we're not comfortable telling you the entirety of the plot points Moviehole has uncovered. Way too many spoilers for our taste, but if you really want to know you can click on over there and find out for yourself. But don't say we didn't warn you.
CraveOnline will be back with more Evil Dead remake news after we pack extra batteries for the flashlights. Those might come in handy.
