Boeheim And Syracuse Sued

Former Syracuse ball boys seek justice and lots of money, just not necessarily in that order.

This is one of those stories that is tragic for all involved. Davis and Lang, former Syracuse ball boys in the 80s, claimed earlier this year that Bernie Fine molested them. Fine maintains his innocence and publicly states this is a fight to the death.

When these accusation first surfaced following the Penn State debacle earlier this year, Boeheim ran to his friends defense with the now infamous quote “You know how much money is going to be involved in civil suits? I’d say about $50 million. That’s what this is about. Money.” Turns out it might be about Boeheim’s money.

This is because Lang and Davis filed a lawsuit in NY Supreme Court this week against Boeheim and Syracuse for defamation. What? Yup, the two men who claim to not want to sue Fine, the man that molested them, do want to sue Boeheim and Syracuse for defamation.

The accusers maintain this is not about money. It’s about creating awareness for prevention of sexual predators. That is an admiral and magnanimous sound-bite. Unfortunately, suing Boeheim and Syracuse looks a lot more like a money hunt than an altruistic search for justice or reconciliation. This Syracuse PR nightmare will likely not play out in the courts and quite possibly lead to a massive settlement. Remember no matter what happens, it’s not about the money.  Keep telling yourself that.
