Keanu Reeves has been to the apocalypse, he's been to Hell, he's even been to Castle Dracula, but he's about to go to the scariest place of all: the director's chair. The star of Chain Reaction and Johnny Mnemonic (you can't undo the past, Reeves) will make his directorial debut with Man of Tai Chi, an international production starring Tiger Chen, who was on the stunt crew of the last two Matrix movies.
Man of Tai Chi will star Tiger Chen as a modern young martial arts expert, presumably in Tai Chi, whose skills lead to "vast opportunities and painful choices," according to Deadline. Reeves will also co-star in an as-yet-unknown role. The movie will shoot throughout the Pacific Ocean in Beijing, Hong Kong and Macau. This will pretty much be Tiger Chen's big breakout role, although he's previously appeared in films like Kung Fu Hero and House of Fury. We haven't seen the former, but House of Fury is actually really good, although Tiger Chen doesn't have a big part in it or anything.
The fact that Reeves is making a movie about a Tai Chi master is worthy of note by itself. The martial art doesn't get much respect for being totally badass in the west, where it is often viewed more as a health regimen than a form of ass-kicking. For those who are unfamiliar with its more action-oriented applications, we present the following clip from the Chinese TV series Tai Chi Master.
CraveOnline will be back with more Man of Tai Chi news after we limber up a bit. Um… Actually, make that a lot.
