Square Enix has announced today that they are bringing Nathan Jurevicius’ award-winning graphic novel, Scarygirl, to video games via Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network. Scarygirl, developed by TikGames, will release in early 2012 for the aforementioned platforms, featuring action-platforming gameplay in a “beautifully bizarre world.”

Players will play as Scarygirl, an abandoned child with a tentacle arm who dresses like a pirate, on the hunt for a strange man haunting her dreams. Over the course of her adventure, Scarygirl will be aided by her companions, a giant octopus named Blister and a kung-fu rabbit named Bunniguru. Scarygirl will feature cooperative play as well, allowing player one to control Scarygirl while player two controls Bunniguru.

The title will also tell a narrative completely standalone from the graphic novel’s story, revealing the man who haunts Scarygirls’ dreams. Below you can watch the game’s first trailer, complete with an art style reminiscent of the graphic novel source material.
