The newest Riddick movie really is the little engine that could, isn't it? After the surprise cult success of Pitch Black, they burst out guns a-blazing with The Chronicles of Riddick, the more-or-less universally reviled big budget PG-13 sequel that all but scuttled the proposed plans for a trilogy. Well, it's been eight years and the radioactive fallout has finally dissipated, and interest has been rekindled. Vin Diesel and series director David Twohy have been working on Riddick 3 for a while now, and after some reported difficulties with the budget are back shooting the threequel now, with a new co-star in tow: Katee Sackhoff. Sexy, talented Katee Sackhoff.
Somehow, the cast of the critically-acclaimed sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica haven't really broken out since the show concluded, but Sackhoff, arguably the program's breakout star, has done pretty well for herself with recurring roles on such popular series as 24 and Nip/Tuck. If nothing else, her geek credibility remains strong, as evidenced by her sex fantasy appearance on The Big Bang Theory. She's also a pretty great actress, and we're excited that she has the opportunity to break out into features with a film with the potential, at least, to be a decent-sized hit. Deadline reports that she'll play a character named Dahl, a "Nordic mercenary" on the hunt for Diesel's title character.
CraveOnline will be back with more Riddick 3 news after we get our eyes shined.
