Tucked away in a press release announcing the release date of Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma is a tasty little nugget for Resident Evil fans. Capcom has announced, almost offhand, that you can get early access to a demo of Resident Evil 6 by purchasing Dragon’s Dogma when it releases on May 25, 2012.
Retail copies of Dragon’s Dogma will come with Resident Evil 6 demo vouchers. Xbox 360 gamers will get first dibs on the demo, being able to download and play it on July 3rd, nearly five months before the game releases on November 20, 2012. PlayStation 3 gamers will get access to the demo on September 4th in North American and Japan (Sep. 5th in Europe).
This isn’t the first time a company has tried to get us to buy into a game by offering up a taste of another, more popular title. Remember back to the Halo 3 beta that came with Crackdown? Yup, I’m positive that little stunt is responsible for selling a lot of copies of Crackdown. It’s clear that Capcom is trying to capture the same lightning in a bottle, offering up a chance to try out their most anticipated game of the year months before it releases.
And like sheep, we’ll follow them. What?! We’re super excited for Resident Evil 6, too! Geez…
