Last month, Shawn Ryan and Karl Gajdusek closed a deal with ABC to produce their new drama pilot, "The Last Resort." And now Ryan and Gajdusek have found the "captain" to lead their potential new series.

According to Deadline, Andre Braugher has signed on to "The Last Resort" to play Marcus Chaplin, the captain of the U.S.S. Nevada, a nuclear submarine. "The Last Resort" takes place in the near future as the crew of the Nevada refuses the order to fire the ship's nuclear payload before retreating to the island of Sainte Marina and declaring themselves to be the world's smallest nuclear nation.

The report describes Marcus Chaplin as "a veteran of real combat, a leader by nature and a patriot, but will not follow any man blindly." As the captain, it's widely expected that Chaplin will lead the new nation as well.

Braugher has a long and successful history on television, including his Emmy Award winning role of Detective Frank Pembleton on "Homicide: Life on the Street," in addition to starring turns on "Men of a Certain Age" and "Thief" in addition to guest appearances on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "House." In features, Braugher has appeared in "Glory," "The Tuskegee Airmen," "City of Angels," "Frequency" and "The Mist," among several others.

If "The Last Resort" is ordered to series, it will likely debut this fall on ABC.
