It's been a long, strange trip en route to The Wolverine, the second X-Men spin-off featuring Hugh Jackman as everyone's favorite snikty Canuck. First Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky bolted, making way for Knight & Day director James Mangold. Then Hugh Jackman decided to go and make that Les Miserables musical with last year's Oscar-winning Best Director Tom Hooper, delaying the start date indefinitely. But now, at last, they're back on track, and 20th Century Fox is comfortable enough to set an official release date: July 26, 2013.
Coming Soon reported on the announcement, which should come as a relief to Wolverine fans who couldn't get enough of his cameo in X-Men: First Class, which recently announced a sequel of its own. The Wolverine is expected to finally tell the story of the titular hero's adventures in Japan, finding the love of his life, and kicking the Silver Samurai's shiny metal butt. It's a good thing they're getting this sequel out of the way, too. Hugh Jackman's on the verge of getting too old to realistically play a character who never ages.
CraveOnline will be back with more The Wolverine news after we get back from Madripoor.
