When "Homeland" wrapped up its first season, Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) remained on the rise politically while his one-time lover (and CIA agent) Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) finally remembered Brody's link to a deadly terrorist moments before undergoing electro-shock therapy to treat her bi-polar condition. But when Carrie returns for the second season of "Homeland," she can count on at least one friendly face by her side.

According to TVLine, David Marciano and Navid Negahban have been bumped from recurring characters to full time regular cast members of "Homeland." In the first season, Marciano played Virgil, an off-the-books intelligence operative who helped Carrie set up her illegal surveillance of Brody while offering moral support as her life came crashing down around her.

Negahban portrayed Abu Nazir, the deadly terrorist who turned Sgt. Brody during his years in captivity. Although Brody quit Nazir's plan of revenge, he eventually recommitted to avenging Nazir's son, who was killed in a U.S. bombing raid.

“The ['Homeland'] writers and creators have been very brave to tackle a subject that everybody thinks about but nobody talks about," Negahban told TVLine. "At the end, it raises the question, Who is your hero? Who is your villain? And that’s what I love about the show.”

Prior to his role on "Homeland," Marciano was best known for Detective Steve Billings on "The Shield" and Detective Raymond Vecchio on "Due South," in addition to roles in "House," "Lie To Me," "Nash Bridges," "JAG," "NYPD Blue" and "CSI."

As for Negahban, he's made a career out of playing terrorists and villains, including two separate occasions on "24,"  "Alias," "The Shield," "The West Wing," "Lost" and "CSI: Miami."

"Homeland" season 2 will begin production in May for an expected return in Fall 2012.
