In the last few years, NBC has seemingly been unable to launch a genre show into a genuine hit. However, "Awake" may finally be just what the network was looking for.
Created by Kyle Killen ("Lone Star"), "Awake" chronicles the story of Detective Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs), a man who begins living in two realities after surviving a horrific car accident with his family. In one world, his wife, Hannah (Laura Allen) survived and in the other, his son, Rex (Dylan Minnette) lived.
Complicating matters further, Michael has a different police partner in each world: Detective Efrem Vega (Wilmer Valderrama) and Detective Isaiah "Bird" Freeman (Steve Harris). Michael also has two different therapists in each reality, Dr. John Lee (B. D. Wong) and Dr. Judith Evans (Cherry Jones); both of whom try to convince him that their world is real and the other a delusion.
In short, Michael no longer knows if he is awake or dreaming, but he doesn't care as long as he can hold on to his family. And Michael soon notices that the two realities are linked in unexpected ways that suggest both are real.
With the series premiere of "Awake" just a few weeks away, NBC has released the first seven minutes of the pilot; which manages to cover a lot of ground in the short time that it has.
NBC has also released a trailer for the first season of "Awake" as another example of what fans can expect to see.
"Awake" will debut on Thursday, March 1, only on NBC.
