Canceled Batman Game Pits The Dark Knight Against Jack the Ripper

Watch some test footage of a Batman game that will never be.

Our friends over at Siliconera have gotten their hands on a pretty rad prototype footage reel for a canned Batman game based on the Gotham by Gaslight comic mini-series. In the comic, Batman hunts down Jack the Ripper at the turn of the 19th and 20th century.

The below test footage shows off the game's steampunk-inspired world and Batman's awesome cape physics. The game adaptation of Gotham by Gaslight was in the works for Xbox 360 and PS3 by developer Day 1 Studios (F.E.A.R., Fracture), but was unfortunately canceled. This game will forever stalk in the shadows, much like Batman himself.

Why Gotham by Gaslight was canceled is anyone's guess. The project was apparently going to be published by THQ, but something must have spooked the publisher and it was dropped. That's a shame, too, considering good Batman games have proven themselves money magnets.

Enjoy the test footage!
