There's really only one reason that UFC director of Canadian operations Tom Wright and president Dana White would be convening in Calgary – a press conference was held there today to announce three new UFC fight events, one of which will be held in Calgary, a first for the Alberta city.

Fights were also announced for Toronto and Montreal.

UFC 149 will take place at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary on July 21st. Saskatoon’s Mitch Clarke will take on Red Deer's Jason MacDonald. “I think a lot of people would come out and support me,” said Clarke, who made his company debut at UFC 140 in Toronto (said Postmedia News). “We’ll see if they put me on there. If not, I’ll be there to do what I can open-workout wise, whatever, to support it.”

Canadian MMA fans can also catch UFC 152 in Toronto on September 22nd and UFC 154 in Montreal on November 17th, where Georges St-Pierre will defend his title in his hometown after coming off of an injury.

"That speaks to the strength of our sport in Canada, how important it is, how committed we are to developing the sport here, and having the consistency in schedule that the best sports always have, which is what we want to be,” said Wright to Postmedia News.

Dana White also announced that the three Canadian cities will host events in 2013 as well. This follows a number of incredibly successful Canadian fights that have taken place in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver.

"(Canada) has been the mecca for MMA ever since we set foot in this country," White said during the press conference (as reported by Sportsnet).
