The Dark Knight Rises Trailer is Attached to The Avengers

It's not quite Marvel vs. DC, but it's the closest we'll probably ever come to seeing them on the same screen.

We're not sure why this is big news, but the newest trailer for The Dark Knight Rises is going to be attached to screenings of The Avengers when Joss Whedon's superhero film opens on May 4. What's that? The trailer to a summer blockbuster will be seen in front of another summer blockbuster? Dear god in heaven, what will they think of next, serving popcorn? We guess this would have been a big honking deal back before high speed internet connections, when theaters were the only place to see such things. Audience flocked in, well, flocks just to see the trailer for Tim Burton's 1989 film, often leaving before the actual feature began. Then again, tickets were cheaper back in those days.

Besides, it's not like you weren't going to see the trailer anyway. There's a significant overlap between the audiences of the Batman movies and the Marvel Studios superhero films. So most interested parties were probably planning to see The Avengers anyway. Maybe this is just a warning to get there on time, but then again the lines for The Avengers are going to be going around the block, so everyone probably knows to get there at a reasonable hour. Unless you're going to one of the increasing number of theaters across the country with assigned seating, in which case the lines won't be a big deal anyhow. And besides, it's going to be up on the internet pretty soon thereafter (if not before).

We're not saying we're not looking forward to a new Dark Knight Rises trailer, and won't obsess over every detail when it comes out. But there's been an increasing and annoying trend towards hyping up trailers, even going so far as to dole out trailers for the trailers themselves, as happened with Prometheus and Total Recall earlier this year (a build up which we refused to even cover, for this very reason).

It's a trailer. We're looking forward to it, but let's not go nuts. We'll see it soon, and that's good enough for us.

CraveOnline will be back with more The Dark Knight Rises news after news breaks of a new poster at some point.
